marcin oz aka highfish (Berlin), has been
a resident at Berlin's WMF Club since 1997, and long-time resident
at Cookies. He has also participated in the creative programming
for both clubs.
In 1999 he co-founded WMF Records and compiled its first CD compilation,
"Nighteffect". In the tour that followed, the WMF sound
was exported to dance floors across Germany and Europe. Since
then, Nighteffect has become a WMF sub-label. With A&R headed
by highfish himself, the label is firmly establishing itself in
the minimal house genre.
For the second "Nighteffect" compilation in 2001, Highfish
commissioned 14 exclusive tracks from internationally acclaimed
producers including Beroshima, Martini Brös and T. Raumschmiere,
to create both a mix CD and two 4-track EPs. The following tour
finally gave Marcin his place as a DJ among clubs and festivals
worldwide.
In 2002, Highfish was one of the first dance floor DJs to exchange
his turntables for Ableton's "Live" software in his
DJ sets. His "Live" gigs with Jacek Sienkiewicz, Jackmate
and Richard Bartz are legendary. Today, Highfish may be heard
playing from either medium.
With the release of Kotai's album in 2002, Nighteffect also became
an artist's label. Highfish's remix of Kotai's "Sucker DJ"
brought him widespread acclaim as a producer as well. He continues
to work with his partner, Fritz Zander, on their own productions
and other remixes such as Jahcoozi ("Fish" on WMF Rec.)
and Psychonauts ("World Keeps Turning" on Gigolo Rec.).
During 2003, Marcin assisted with various productions at Tobi
Neuman's Apollo Studio (Berlin). In May of the same year he also
started a band project with Fritz Zander and Erlend Oye called
"The Whitest Boy Alive". With the success of the band's
live shows and the release of the track "Inflation"
on the "Kitsune Midnight" compilation, it's clear that
the forthcoming album has a great deal in store for its growing
fan base. |
